Orlando City acquires midfielder Johnson

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando City SC has signed two-time MLS Cup champion free agent Will Johnson to a two-year contract with an option for a third year, the team announced Wednesday.

“We are pleased to add Will to the team,” Lions general manager Niki Budalic said. “He is a proven and accomplished MLS player that knows the league and (coach Jason Kreis’) system very well from their time at Real Salt Lake. We are confident he will help the club achieve its goals moving forward.”

Johnson, 29, a 10-year MLS veteran and three-time all-star, is a Toronto native and made 29 appearances (20 starts) with Toronto FC last season. Johnson, who holds Canadian, U.S. and English citizenship, has compiled 212 regular-season and 25 playoff MLS appearances, totaling 29 goals and 22 assists. Johnson, who played for Kreis at RSL from 2008-12, won the 2009 MLS Cup and the 2015 MLS Cup with Portland.
