Miami FC drops preseason match, 5-2
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Miami FC lost its second successive preseason match to an MLS team, falling, 5-2, to the Chicago Fire Sunday.
The Fireís Luis Solignac opened the scoring after intercepting a Blake Smith back pass in the third minute. Miami, which lost, 6-1, to Toronto FC last week, retaliated in the 24th minute as Calvin Rezende played a ball over the top to a streaking Stefano Pinho, who failed to connect. Smithís 28th-minute shot nearly equalized. In the 33rd minute, a Richie Ryan cross sailed back post, Rhett Bernstein heading in front for Pinhoís header, which was cleared. Dylan Mares equalized from the left off a Vincenzo Rennella through ball in the 38th minute.
Chicago broke the deadlock just before halftime as hand ball was called on Bernstein, John Goossens converting the penalty kick.
The Fire netting two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, Arturo Alvarez converting on a long-distance shot and David Arshakyan finishing a rebound.
Miamiís Daniel Vega, who was replaced in the 59th minute, made a save on a point blank save.
Chicago upped the advantage on David Accamís 63rd-minute goal.
Miami scored in the 71st minute, after Jamie Chavez was brought down at the edge of the penalty area, a penalty kick awarded after a Video Assistant Referee consultation, Ariel Martinezí attempt saved, Martinez finishing the rebound.
